This weekly article serves to update you on the latest fantasy relevant injury news from around the NFL. I will break down injuries from last week, and give updates on players expected to return to action soon. No one wants to see a player go down, but it is the unfortunate nature of the game. Check out the “The Next Man Up Injury Report” to find which players stand the most to gain from these injuries and make sure you’re in the know while surfing your league’s waiver wire!

Week 12 is here! Thanksgiving is now behind us, and I pray that you were able to enjoy some time this week reflecting upon the things that you are thankful for. This week’s injury report comes to you on the heels of our 87th episode of the RoD Pod in which we expressed how thankful we are for this community. Nothing we do would have a purpose if it was not for you, the readers! So I am taking this intro to say thank you for all of your views, reads, responses, and shares. I truly appreciate the fact that I am able to have this outlet and the opportunity to help people get better at fantasy football! As always, if you have a question that isn’t answered in this article, or a question about one of these players, you can always reach out to me on twitter (@kallen_4) or reddit (u/kallen_4)!

Quarterbacks:

Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears

Right Shoulder, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Full, Thursday- Full, Friday- Full

Nick Foles, Chicago Bears

Hip Pointer, DOUBTFUL
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- DNP
Next Man Up: With Trubisky practicing in full all week and Foles failing to practice once, it is quite apparent that Trubisky will lead the Bears’ offense this weekend. Whether this move benefits the other Bears’ skill players is tough to tell at this point due to the small sample size from Trubisky thus far, but a change at QB may just be what the Bears need to stop their current 4 game losing streak.

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Left Knee, OUT/IR
Practice Status: N/A
Next Man Up: Burrow suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee, along with other structural damage that was not identified in reports. It is likely that the full extent of the injuries will not be known until he is in the operating room. He is out for the remainder of 2020 and the beginning of his 2021 season is more than likely in jeopardy as well, seeing as these sorts of injuries often require 12-16 months for recovery. The Bengals plan to start Brandon Allen, recently brought up from the practice squad, in week 12 after back up Ryan Finley looked utterly clueless in relief of Burrow.

Philip Rivers, Indianapolis Colts

Toe, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Rivers was able to fit in a limited practice on Friday leaving him with a questionable designation for Sunday. Rivers has been known to play through minor injuries and is likely to start on Sunday. However, should he miss time Jacoby Brissett will have the first crack at leading the offense with rookie Jacob Eason serving as his backup.

Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars

Thumb, OUT
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- Limited, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Minshew was able to practice in a limited capacity all week, but head coach, Doug Marrone, has stated that he wants a full week before bringing Minshew back into the fray. Due to his recent struggles, rookie Jake Luton has been benched in favor of journeyman back-up Mike Glennon for week 12.

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

Thumb, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- Limited, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Tua rides a questionable designation into the weekend coming off of a week 11 benching. While it isn’t exactly clear if Brian Flores pulled Tua due to his underwhelming performance or if he was injured, we do know that Ryan Fitzpatrick is more than capable of holding down the starting job if Tua misses time.

Running Backs:

Todd Gurley, Atlanta Falcons

Knee, OUT
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- DNP
Next Man Up: Gurley was unable to practice this week due to a knee injury and has been ruled out for Sunday. Brian Hill will lead the Atlanta backfield and makes for a flex start with decent upside and a great option for DFS this weekend.

Mike Davis, Carolina Panthers

Ankle, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Full, Thursday- Full, Friday- Full (Injured in practice)

Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers

Shoulder, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- Limited, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: McCaffrey was able to practice in limited fashion throughout the week, but it is unlikely that he will play this week. With the Panthers well out of playoff contention and a bye week looming in week 13, Matt Rhule would be wise to rest his franchise player until he is 100%. Despite this, he will now be faced with a difficult decision as Mike Davis suffered an ankle injury in practice on Friday. While it may not be significant and Davis could still play. In terms of healthy players, Alex Armah is the team’s leader in snaps from the back field and Curtis Samuel as the team’s leader in rushing attempts.

Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals

Concussion, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- Limited, Friday- Full
Next Man Up: Bernard progressed well through practice this week and is currently listed as questionable. His status will depend on his ability to pass the league’s concussion protocol. It is unlikely that we will have an official ruling until Sunday, so keep an eye on reports coming out of Cincinnati.

Kalen Ballage, Los Angeles Chargers

Ankle, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- Limited, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: The newly resurgent Ballage has been limited this week due to an ankle injury. With Justin Jackson on IR, the Chargers may be forced to activate Austin Ekeler this week, who has not played since suffering a grade 2 hamstring strain in week 4. Joshua Kelley will also be available for the Chargers, but Ekeler, if available, would be the superior option.

Salvon Ahmed, Miami Dolphins

Knee, OUT
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- DNP

Myles Gaskin, Miami Dolphins

Ankle, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- Limited, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Head coach Brian Flores has ruled out Salvon Ahmed for week 12 but has stated that he is still undecided on Myles Gaskins’ status for Sunday. If Gaskin joins Ahmed and is unable to go, the Dolphins will likely employ a committee approach with Matt Breida leading the attack and DeAndre Washington serving in the change of pace role.

Chris Carson, Seattle Seahawks

Foot, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Thursday- Limited, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Carson has been limited thus far, but is expected to be ready for Monday night’s matchup with Philadelphia. If he is limited or misses yet another week of action, back-up Carlos Hyde will step into the starting role again after a great performance last week.

Wide Receivers:

Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons

Hamstring, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- Limited, Friday- DNP
Next Man Up: Jones’ questionable designation certainly carries more weight than most as he went from limited work through the week to a DNP on Friday. He only played 35% of the team’s snaps last week and is considered a game time decision. With Jones’ decreased workload, fellow receivers Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage saw an increased target share. Ridley is the clear #1 target when Julio is not in the game, but Gage saw more targets and caught more passes in week 11.

John Brown, Buffalo Bills

Ankle, OUT
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- DNP
Next Man Up: The Bills’ third leading receiver will miss week 12 after suffering an ankle injury. Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley will continue to lead the way for Buffalo with Gabriel Davis and Isaiah McKenzie likely to pick up the slack left by Brown.

Jerry Jeudy, Denver Broncos

Ankle/Achilles, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- Limited, Thursday- DNP, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Jeudy has stated that he has a foot injury that is, “bugging him.” While it is unclear if he will be available for week 12, we do know that fellow rookie KJ Hamler has been making strides each week and fellow receiver Tim Patrick has nearly identical production to Jeudy this season. This duo will lead the passing attack for Denver should Jeudy miss time.

D.J. Chark, Jacksonville

Ribs, OUT
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- DNP

Chris Conley, Jacksonville Jaguars

Hip, OUT
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- Limited, Friday- DNP
Next Man Up: The Jags will go into week 12 without 2 of their 3 leading receivers. This leaves Keelan Cole and Laviska Shenault as the 2 top receivers in an offense that is now down to its 3rd option at QB as well. James Robinson may be the team’s lone reliable fantasy option this week, and this many absences on offense makes the Browns defense an interesting play this week.

Tight Ends:

Hayden Hurst, Atlanta Falcons

Ankle, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: Hurst has been nursing a sore ankle this week but has progressed to a limited practice on Friday. He has not made a massive fantasy impact, but in Julio Jones’ potential absence serves as the team’s largest target in the red zone. Back up Luke Stocker will serve as the starting TE if Hurst cannot play, but likely does not serve much fantasy relevance.

Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

Thigh, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Friday- Limited
Next Man Up: With the Ravens-Steelers game being flexed to Tuesday amidst a rash of positive COVID tests in Baltimore, Andrews is a risky play. His QB has tested positive and will likely not play, and the TE’s questionable status for a game played on a Tuesday is enough for me to prefer someone guaranteed to player earlier in the week. Compounding this is the fact that the Ravens currently have no healthy TEs listed on their roster with Nick Boyle or IR. If needed, former Seattle Seahawk Luke Willson would likely be brought up from the practice squad.

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

Elbow, QUESTIONABLE
Practice Status: Wednesday- DNP, Thursday- DNP, Friday- DNP
Next Man Up: Higbee did not practice all week, but his elbow injury may not prevent him from playing this weekend. He is currently listed as questionable and will be backed up by Gerald Everett if he is unable to play.

Remember, injury status is a moving target and the majority of these situations are liable to change between now and game time this weekend. Keep an eye on your roster, and monitor the official injury reports closely as the week comes to an end. When in doubt, play the healthy player, and remember, the best ability is availability! That concludes the week 12 injury report, if you have any questions or comments, please reach out to me via twitter (@kallen_4) or reddit (u/kallen_4). Good luck this week and happy Thanksgiving!
